Spotlight:
Pedestrian & Cycle Bridges

Modern pedestrian and cycle bridges are essential infrastructure for community planning, providing practical and sustainable solutions to shape communities. Not only do they provide safe access and reduce congestion, they also help preserve the environment and wildlife, and add architectural character.
DWW Engineering are a trusted partner of councils and businesses, delivering custom bridge solutions through our in-house design team, fabricators, machinery, delivery and installation.
Expertise in Pedestrian & Cycle Bridge Fabrication
For over 60 years, our reputation has been built on our expertise, high-quality craftsmanship, and reliability in steel and metal fabrication. Our pedestrian bridges showcase our unique combination of functionality and style, made possible through our technical capabilities and industry expertise. We have the skills and specialist equipment to fabricate girder, suspension, and cable-stay bridge designs.
Our in-house design and drafting team oversee the entire project lifecycle from start to finish, ensuring that each bridge meets client specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Our comprehensive services include material selection, architectural detailing, and structural customisation based on the project’s unique needs. DWW’s full-service model provides design, fabrication, transport, and installation, including abutments of the bridge on-site, providing a seamless solution from concept to completion.
Case Studies
Every pedestrian bridge presents challenges, from unique client requests and terrain and load-bearing requirements to aesthetic considerations, environmental impact, and safety regulations. Our experienced team address these challenges with customised solutions that balance form and function.
Greenwood Grove – 20m x 2.5m Cycle Bridge
This project posed several challenges as a water main was to be mounted to the bridge to cross a creek and protect the environment around the bridge while withstanding the elements.
Our design team worked closely with the client to ensure the water main was securely attached practically and applied PSX 700, a patented siloxane coating that protects the metal from corrosion and has anti-graffiti properties.

Emerald – 22m x 2.5m Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge
To complete this project to the client’s specifications and budget, we drafted a Warren truss bridge with timber decking that met the rigorous standards of the Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).
To create the handrails, we used the technique of the Hot Dip Galvisiation (HDG) to make galvinsed steel, which is cost effective, resistant to corrosion and has a long-life cycle. The bridge frame and handrails were treated with anti-graffiti paint to protect the aesthetics of the bridge.

Berrinba Wetlands – 5 Bridges, including 72m span Cable Stayed Bridge
DWW Engineering were the major steel fabricator for the Logan City Council’s Berrinba Wetlands improvement project, which included infrastructure and landscaping elements.
Working with Ronstan Tensile Architecture, who supplied and installed the suspension system, DWW delivered the metal fabrication for the 72m cable stayed bridge, designed to withstand flooding and minimise impact to waterflow. We also fabricated four additional pedestrian bridges between 10m & 25m in length, featuring collapsible handrails to reduce debris build-up during flooding.
