Spotlight: Electrical Skids in the Mining Sector
In the evolving landscape of the Australian mining industry, technological advancements have been pivotal in enhancing efficiency, safety, and sustainability. Among these innovations, electrical skids have emerged as game-changers. DWW Engineering has been at the forefront of designing and implementing electrical skids that significantly benefit mining operations across Australia.
Understanding Electrical Skids
Electrical skids are pre-assembled units containing electrical and control equipment, designed for easy transportation and installation. These compact, modular systems are engineered to support a variety of applications, from power distribution to automated control processes. The beauty of electrical skids lies in their plug-and-play functionality, which significantly reduces onsite installation time and minimises disruption to operations. DWW Engineering has an experienced team who can work with you to customise electrical skids to your project-specific needs, including those in the power and energy sectors, too.
The Significance of Electrical Skids in Mining
The mining sector, known for its harsh environments and complex operations, demands robust and reliable electrical solutions. Electrical skids meet these requirements head-on, offering a versatile and efficient approach to managing electrical systems in mining sites. They ensure uninterrupted power supply, critical for the continuous operation of heavy machinery and safety systems. The modular nature of electrical skids facilitates scalability and adaptability, allowing mining operations to evolve in line with technological advancements and regulatory changes.
When DWW Engineering was contracted to manufacture skids for the ABB Substation, all frames were shop-trial assembled in our factory before being delivered on site. This step is crucial to guarantee precision and ensure every aspect of the project is quality assured. All steelwork was hot-dip galvanized, to coat the steel with a layer of zinc to protect it from corrosion.
Galvanized steel is used for electrical enclosures due to its corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity properties. Its durability makes it suitable for long term outdoor exposure, and ideal for the harsh Australian elements.

Skids for Coal Seam Gas Projects
DWW Engineering has also manufactured skids for coal seam gas operations. They are designed and used for the treatment of water used in the coal seam gas industry. These skids are typically used at sites where water is extracted or used in the production process. The primary purpose of gas water treatment skids is to remove impurities, contaminants, and harmful substances from the water to make it suitable for various industrial processes or environmental discharge.
Gas water treatment skids are often pre-engineered, skid-mounted units that can be easily transported to different locations and quickly installed. They provide a cost-effective and efficient solution for treating water in the gas and oil industries, helping to meet regulatory requirements and environmental standards while minimising the impact of industrial activities on local water resources.
