Beams, Rockerbox and Turntable for Mining Liner Handler

Client: GEARS Mining

Application: Structural steel fabrication for mining liner handler parts

Scope: Fabrication to standard jigs, in-workshop in situ machining, coordination of external final machining

Mining liner handler fabrication showing a fabricated structural steel beam assembly in DWW Engineering’s workshop.

Project Details

DWW Engineering fabricated the structural arm assembly, turntable and rocker box for a mill liner handler for GEARS Mining, specialised equipment used to remove and replace wear liners inside ball mills.

The scope covered four core components:

  • Inner beam: Engineered to slide and pivot inside the outer beam as part of the telescoping arm assembly.
  • Outer beam: The structural housing for the telescoping arm.
  • Turntable: Allows the arm assembly to rotate into position during liner replacement operations.
  • Rocker box: A structural component supporting the movement and operation of the arm assembly.

All components were fabricated using DWW Engineering’s standard jig-based manufacturing process to maintain dimensional consistency throughout the build.

Following fabrication, the turntable received in situ machining in DWW Engineering’s workshop before being sent to an external machine shop for final machining.

The outer beam and rocker box also received in situ machining in DWW Engineering’s workshop after fabrication, with no external machining required.

The inner beam was dispatched to an external machine shop for machining following fabrication before final delivery to the client.

Highlights

  • Fabrication of a mill liner handler assembly including an inner beam, outer beam, turntable and rocker box.
  • Standard jig-based manufacturing process used to maintain dimensional accuracy across all fabricated components.
  • In situ machining completed in-house on the turntable, outer beam and rocker box following fabrication.
  • Turntable sent for external final machining after in-workshop machining.
  • Inner beam dispatched for external machining following fabrication.
  • Continued supply partnership with GEARS Mining across multiple liner handler builds.
