City Cat Ferry Terminal Upgrade
Scope of Work: Fabrication of three new ferry terminals
Key Elements: Structural aluminium truss with internal marine walkway; spans up to 26 m (35+ tonnes)
Project Details
DWW Engineering fabricated three new flood-resistant, disability-compliant gangways for Brisbane City Council as part of CityCat ferry terminal upgrades at Bulimba, Brett’s Wharf and Hawthorne. Each gangway incorporated a structural aluminium outer truss and an internal marine walkway designed to maintain safe access as conditions changed.
These builds pushed the limits of aluminium fabrication, including heavy structural sections (30 mm+), long spans up to 26 m, and assemblies weighing over 35 tonnes. DWW completed 3D modelling and fabrication drawings from engineering designs, sourced suitable structural aluminium grades, carried out full-penetration welding where required, and delivered the finished gangways ready for installation.
