Brisbane Metro – Charging Gantries for Metro Buses

As part of Brisbane’s shift towards more sustainable public transport, DWW Engineering was engaged by Hitachi to deliver a critical component of the new Brisbane Metro – the overhead steel gantries used to charge electric buses.

These high-tech charging stations are crucial to ensure Metros are running frequently and at a high capacity. Specifically, the Metro buses are charged at end of route locations. Because the charging process is as quick as six and a half minutes per bus, Metros are on the road again faster, providing uninterrupted service.

Altogether, DWW handled the entire process of building the charging gantries in-house, including design, drafting, trial assembly, and delivery. By managing each stage with one experienced team, we ensured the project ran smoothly, minimising delays and reducing the risk of errors between handovers.

Our end-to-end approach also makes onsite operations faster and safer. The steel gantries were delivered fully prepared for installation, supporting the timely rollout of Brisbane’s new electric bus network.

We’re proud to contribute to sustainable transport infrastructure that will benefit the city for years to come.
